WCC # 1: Dowler, Robb, Waller and Peltier scored 2 wins!

21 May 2012

The 2012 season of the Western Canadian Championships took off this weekend in Chilliwack, BC.  This three round championship will provide three drivers to Team Canada for the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Portugal next November.

Saturday

Saturday had perfect race day conditions with sun and warm temperature. In the Max Junior class, it seems that Parker Thompson will be the driver to beat for the world’s seat. One of his best opponents, Zacharie Scalzo, is already qualified for the RMCGF. Thompson took the pole in qualifying and won the final race.  In the Max Senior class, US driver Stepanova Nekeel scored a perfect day but as foreign driver, he is not eligible to score points in the championship.  The battle for the title in Rotax Max will surely include Chris Glover and Bryce Choquer again. On this first day, Glover and Choquer finish 2nd and 3rd in both races. In DD2, only four competitors registered but the battle was very close all day long and the final race was decided by less than 3 tenths when  Austin King won over Daniel Burkett.

The other winners of this first day were Griffin Dowler in Micro-Max, Sting Ray Robb in Mini-Max, Dylan Waller in Briggs & Stratton Junior 1 and Mike Peltier in MAX Masters. Full results of WCC – race one are available on Mylaps.com.

Sunday

Everything was reset to zero on Sunday morning. Weather and track conditions where different because of the cloudy conditions in the morning and later with light rain. At the beginning of the Rotax MAX junior, track was almost dry and driver when on track with slicks, except Jacob Goertz and the bet was the right one. He won the final race with a lead of 47 seconds over Matthew Moniz in 2nd place and with one lap lead over Parker Thompson in third place. In Rotax DD2, Scott Campbell dominated on rain and easily won the final. In the last race of the day, Chris Glover won the Rotax Max, followed by Kevin King and Kyle Shields. Mike Peltier won his second race of the weekend in the DD2 class.

Micro-Max was particularly affected by the conditions because they raced both races on slippery conditions. Griffin Dowler won again while Sebastian Mercado and Marco Kacic exchanged their 2nd and 3rd place. Sting Ray Robb also scored a second win in the Mini-Max class. In Briggs and Stratton Junior 1, Dylan Weller concluded a perfect weekend leading every session on track.
