2011 Rotax Grand Finals: Day 1

20 November 2011

The Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals take place this week in Al Ain, in the United Arab Emirates, approximately 130 km from Dubaï. The event officially took off today with the kart raffle in each classes. New this year, instead of drawing a ping-pong ball corresponding to a kart on the starting line, the draw was made electronically once the driver’s pass was scanned.

We had the confirmation today that Canada was the biggest delegation of the event with 21 drivers. After the raffle, drivers had to complete the kart preparation with their mechanic and for the Rotax Junior and Senior drivers, proceed to the technical inspection.

Later today, all participants and their teammates are invited to the “Welcome party”. At the party, the qualifying round for the Tire Changing Contest will take place. Not sure yet who will be the Canadian contestant.

Tomorrow, the DD2 and DD2 Masters drivers will proceed with their technical inspection and after lunch, all drivers will go on track for their first practice of the event.

We would like to remind you that the last three days of the event, Thursday to Saturday, will be broadcasted live over the internet and you can follow the live timing of whole event when sessions are timed. You just have to visit the official event webpage for all details:

As we did last year, we will try to post a daily video which normally consists of interviews with drivers. See today video with Daniel Burkett (DD2) and Parker Thompson (Rotax Junior) on Youtube.
